Joan 'Jo' E. Handis

Joan “Jo” E. Handis, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:50 a.m. May 27, 2012, in Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.   

She was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Fort Wayne, to Daniel and Ruth Doenges  Knepper, Fort Wayne. She married Ronald Koehlinger, who preceded her in death. On July 5, 1980, in Warsaw, she married John M. Handis, who survives.

She was a resident of Kosciusko County since 1965, residing in the Warsaw area. She worked at Gatke Corp., Warsaw Airport, Sun Metal, retired from L.M. Berry “the yellow pages company” then worked at the local Super Walmart for 15 years in the paint department. She attended Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw.

Also surviving are a daughter, Michelle Kennedy, Tucson, Ariz.;  three sons, Jerry (and spouse Pam) Koehlinger and Jim Koehlinger, all of Warsaw, and James Handis, Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Joy Valentine, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Daniel F. (and spouse Ann) Knepper, Warsaw; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Dennis Bollenbach officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
