Joan Elaine Cox, Warsaw, passed away at 7:36 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Lake City Place of Warsaw at the age of 88.
She was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Whitley County, to Warren Henry Slater and Florence Irene Reasoner Slater. She was married to Samuel Hamman on Oct. 29, 1949; he passed away in 1985. Joan re-married on July 4, 1987, to Thomas H. Cox, who passed away on Sept. 3, 1999.
Joan has been a resident of Kosciusko County since 1985 and was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and had worked part time at J.C. Penney.
She was a kind and soft-spoken lady who loved her family dearly, and will be missed by her family, church family and countless friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Jeffrey (wife Connie) Hamman, Leesburg, and Chad Hamman, Bristol, Tenn.; and her daughter, Melinda (husband Michael) Walters, Wabash. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jeff (wife Cathy) Hamman, Plymouth; Honey Walters, Sacramento, Calif.; Miranda Hamman, Waterloo; Melissa Hamman, Fort Wayne; and Ashley Hamman, Garrett; and several great-grandchildren, as well as stepgrandchildren, great-stepgrandchildren and great-great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sons, David and Paul Hamman; and one grandson, Stephen Hamman.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Her funeral service will follow immediately at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Erik Ohman.
Burial will take place at South Whitley Cemetery.
