Bourbon - Jimtown showed why it's ranked No.1 in Class 2A Friday against Triton.
They beat a Triton team 41-0 that had been playing its best football of the season entering the contest.
Early in the game it looked as if the Trojans might pose a problem. The two teams kept each other in the middle of the field and at the end of the first quarter the Jimmies were only leading by a touchdown. The score was provided by Brian Smith who ran it in from 38 yards out.
Jimtown came out in the second quarter and took control of the game.
First, Travis Daniels scampered in from 28 yards out. Smith scored on a 4-yard run to put the Jimmies up 21-0.
To cap off the first half, the Jimmies' Adrian Pettis intercepted a Nate Setser pass and brought it back 39 yards for a TD. Travis Daniels had a run of 25 yards to extend the Jimtown lead to 35-0.
After that, Jimtown coach Bill Sharpe put in his second and third stringers. #Even with reserves in, Triton had trouble moving the ball downfield. The Trojans had only 157 yards of offense and were forced to punt 8 times.
The Trojans inability to run the football was one of many reasons they lost. They averaged less then 3 yards per carry.
Triton head coach Rod Wildman knew that his team needed a great game.
"Going in we knew we had to play a near perfect game just to stay in it," Wildman said.
Despite ending the season with a loss Wildman was happy with his team's regular season and optimistic about their chances in the sectional.
"It's an honor for me to be a part of this, but the credit for this season really goes to the players and the rest of the coaching staff," Wildman said. "But we do have a tough sectional.
"I think Whiting is ranked and the team we play (River Forest) is really strong," he said.
"We'll have to play two really good games to get out of that sectional."
The Trojans end their regular season at 5-4, which is their best record since 1989.
The Trojans will try to add to the win total when they travel to River Forest for their sectional Friday.
