LINCOLN, Neb. – Jimmie Lee Warren, 76, Lincoln, Neb., died at 805 a.m. June 18, 2014, in Lincoln. He had been ill since 1983. He was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Warsaw, to Clifford Howard and Blanche Marie Long Warren. On Aug. 4, 1962, at Havelock Methodist Church, Lincoln, he married Sharon Lee McGinnis, who preceded him in death. He was a 1956 graduate of Warsaw High School. During his time at WHS, he participated in intramural basketball and was a member of the prom committee. He lettered in football. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Feb. 4, 1957. He quickly rose to the prestigious rank of chief master sergeant. He earned many honorable awards and medals, most notably the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. He also received the Air Force Outstanding Unit award with Combat V with one silver and two bronze oak leaves, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. His assignments included Presque Isle AFB, Maine; Lincoln AFB, Neb.; Eglin AFB, Fla.; McClellan AFB, Calif.; Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Vandenberg AFB, Calif.; Wiesbaden AFB, Germany; Ankara Air Station, Turkey; and Offutt AFB, Neb. He retired with 27 years, 7 months and 27 days served. He enjoyed spending time with the family, especially the little ones. He very much enjoyed the company of his children, granddaughters and great-grandsons. He always had a sweet snack on the ready. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-granddaughter at Christmas time. Surviving are his brother, Ronald (and spouse Karen) Warren, Claypool; son, Mark (and spouse Karen) Warren, Lincoln; a daughter, Christine (and spouse Steven) Hurd, Lincoln; three granddaughters: Emily Torwirt and Megen Warren, both of Lincoln; Amanda Torwirt, Omaha, Neb.; two great-grandsons, Atticus Doyle and Daegan Torwirt, Lincoln; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Eugene. Graveside services and burial of ashes will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Lot 14, Section 27.
