Jimmie Dean Jones, 80, Warsaw, and formerly of Akron, died at 4:55 p.m. Sept. 11, 2016, at Parkview Hospital of Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 5, 1936, in Fulton County, to Raymond R. and Arvada M. Barnes Jones.
He served his country for two years in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
He was a truck driver and had driven a tour bus for Imperial Bus Co. for 16 years.
He was a 1956 graduate of Akron High School, where he excelled at basketball, track and baseball. He was a member of the 1956 basketball sectional championship team.
Survivors include three daughters: Jennifer (and husband Larry) Daine, Macy; Cindy (and husband Mike) Martin, Warsaw; and Dina Gearhart, Twelve Mile; a son: Jimmie (and wife Janice) Jones Jr., Silver Lake; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Jack (and wife Chris) Jones, Fort Wayne; Ronald (and wife Mary) Jones, Bremen; and Donald (and wife Dora) Jones, Akron. He was preceded by his parents; a brother, Kenneth E. Jones; and a son-in-law, Larry Gearhart.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be  in Akron Cemetery at a later date.
Calling is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
