Jerry Ray Newton, Warsaw, passed at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, at the age of 75.
He was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Warsaw, to Stanley Lawrence Newton and Flora Lee Clymer Newton.
Jerry was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County and a 1960 graduate of Mentone High School. In 1977 he started Newton and Sons Excavating in Warsaw, which he owned and operated until his passing. It’s still a family-owned business where he was able to work with his son.
Jerry loved the outdoors, was a fix-it man, and he very much enjoyed working at the shop and helping people. Most of all he loved his family and grandchildren dearly.
He will be lovingly remembered by his fiancée, Linda Odem, Warsaw; two sons, Troy (wife Kristy) Newton, Warsaw, and Tim Newton, Warsaw; daughter, Shantel (husband Kent) Garrett, Noblesville; stepson, Jake Odem, Kendallville; and three stepdaughters: Jodie Keister, Albion; Jamie (husband Ryan) Teders, Avilla; and Danielle (husband Grant) Uhlig, Ligonier. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Katey, Steve, Ashley, Nick, Riley, Jason, Renee, Arianna, Callie and Zach; six stepgrandchildren: Kyanna, Kyarra, Kyowa, Gabe, Justen and Ailey; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Andrew Newton, Florida, and Joe (wife Lynn) Dzierla, South Bend; and two sisters, Connie (husband John) Brown, Burket, and Nancy (husband Marty) Noble, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leisa Marie Rossi, in 2011; and two brothers, Dan Newton and Jan Dzierla.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, officiated by his brothers, Joe Dzierla and Andrew Newton.
Burial will follow at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
