ST. JAMES CITY, Fla. - Jerry Chris Johnson, 77, of 4962 Gulf Gate Lane, Pine Island Cove, and formerly of Elkhart and Syracuse Lake, died at 10 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009, in Cape Coral (Fla.) Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Goshen, to Harold "Cap" and Mabel Holtzinger Johnson. On Nov. 21, 1986, in Syracuse, he married Lucille Lapense, who survives.
He was a 1949 Goshen High School graduate and served in the military. He was a member of the American Legion.
Also surviving are two daughters, Debra (and spouse Roger) Snyder, Goshen, and Julie (and spouse Max) Schut, South Bend; two sons, Jerry Chris (and spouse Jo Ann) Johnson, Warsaw, and Eric (and spouse Hilda) Johnson, Goshen; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold "June" Johnson, Bloomington.
A memorial service will be at a later date in Goshen with burial in Violet Cemetery. There will be cremation.
