AKRON – Jeri Lyn Smith, 63, of Akron, died at 1:22 a.m. Sept. 22, 2012, in Hope Hospice, Logansport Memorial Hospital, after a battle with ovarian cancer since May 2007.

She was born June 28, 1949, in Peru, to Dean and Mary Helms Gallahan. On Sept. 7, 1969, in Mexico, Ind., she married Randy Smith, who survives.

She was a homemaker and in earlier years was manager of Country Cousins Children’s Store and was part of the Gallahan Oil Co., Peru. She was a member of Olive Branch Church of God, where she was active in the church and the women’s Bible study. She participated in Teal Ribbon Ovarian Cancer Run and Walk for the past five years. She was a 1967 North Miami High School graduate.

Also surviving are two daughters, Betsy (and spouse Barry) Hiffner, Peru, and Sally (and spouse Josh) Nixon, Lafayette; a son, Casey Smith (and fiance Breanna Skinner), West Lafayette; her mother, Mary Gallahan, Peru; five grandchildren; a sister, Lori “Bugs” (and spouse Jeff) Laycock, Peru; and two brothers, Lance (and spouse Carrie) Gallahan and Kevin (and spouse Laura) Gallahan, all of Peru. She was preceded in death by her father.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Olive Branch Church of God, Roann, with Pastors Allen Barton and Jeff Summer officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
