Jennings Sets New Triton Strikeout Record In Local Roundup

KNOX — With her 13-strikeout performance in an 11-0 Northern State Conference win at Knox Monday, junior Mallorie Jennings became Triton’s all-time leader in strikeouts.
The former leader for softball strikeouts was Bethany Kern who had 350, but with her latest performance, Jennings has 360.
Along with her 13 strikeouts, Jennings also surrendered just two hits in seven innings of work, walking three.
Offensively, Krystal Sellers, Hannah Jennings, Brycelyn Garbison, Allyson Brown, Halie Zimmerman and Lillie Berger each had two hits.
Also for Triton, both of Garbison’s hits were doubles, while Berger had three RBIs and Sellers, Hannah Jennings, Garbison and Zimmerman each drove in two runs.
Triton returns to NSC action Wednesday at home against John Glenn at 4:30 p.m.

Monday in Culver
With Pioneer needing to cancel its matchup with Tippecanoe Valley Monday, the Vikings picked up Culver Military Academy. In Culver, the Vikings scored six runs in the final two innings, but came up short, losing 8-6. In defeat, Jarred Littlejohn had two hits and three RBIs. The 0-5 Vikings host Warsaw today, then host South Bend Adams Thursday.

Scoring six runs in the first inning, the Whitko baseball team only needed five innings to defeat West Noble Monday at home, 13-3. Zach Snep was the winning pitcher, striking out five. At the plate, Wyatt Wolf was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Tanner Gaff went 2 for 2, driving in two and scoring three times. The 5-1 Wildcats are at Peru Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game.

Monday in Mishawaka
The Triton boys golf team posted a couple of wins at Mishawaka’s Eberhart-Petro Golf Course Monday evening against Mishawaka and John Glenn. On the par-36 front nine, Triton finished with a 164, while Glenn shot a 180 and Mishawaka finished with a 194. Ryan Rapp of Triton was the medalist with a 37, helping his team improve to 4-0 on the season.

At Rochester Monday, the Triton girls tennis team picked up a 3-2 victory. In singles action, Kaelyn Mason won on the No. 1 court (6-4, 6-0) with Carrie Slabaugh getting a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2. At doubles, Triton’s Marissa Ross and Savannah Baker dropped the first set 7-5, but came back to win the second and third, 6-3, 6-3. The 1-1 Lady Trojans are at Whitko today then LaVille Wednesday.

The Manchester girls track and field team dominated a three-team meet on its home turf Monday. Hosting the meet, the Lady Squires tallied 104 points, while North Miami had 33 and Caston finished with 19. Winning all 15 events, Manchester was led by Bekah Brunn and Elena Schnieders, who won two individual events each. Brunn won the 100 hurdles (17.53) and 200 (29.03), while Schnieders took first in the 1600 (5:54) and 300 hurdles (49.07). The Lady Squires will be at Saturday’s Turtle Town Classic in Churubusco.
