BOURBON — The pitching and hitting of junior Mallorie Jennings helped lift the Triton softball team over Tippecanoe Valley Monday in Bourbon. Inside the circle, Jennings went all seven innings, striking out 14 Lady Vikings, while also going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Jennings’ efforts lifted the Lady Trojans to a 5-3 victory. Triton got its first lead of the game thanks to a solo home run by sophomore Krystal Sellers in the first inning, the start of a hot night in which she went 3 for 3. The Lady Trojans added another two runs in the fourth, followed by another pair in the fifth. Valley put two on the board in the top of the seventh, but didn’t have enough to make the complete comeback. In defeat, Valley sophomore Kassidy Shepherd went 2 for 3 at the plate, while junior Danielle Adams was 2 for 4 and junior Alaya Pelo went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run. Both teams return to the field Thursday, as Triton travels to Caston and Valley visits Winamac.
