Jeffrey Scott Gaerte, a resident of Chapman Lake, passed away quietly on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Kosciusko Community Hospital. Known by most as “Jeff,” he was 53 years old.
Jeff was born March 4, 1964, in Whitley County. He was the son of Larry D. and Shirley A. Walker Gaerte. He spent most of his lifetime in Warsaw and the surrounding area, graduating from Warsaw Community High School in 1983.
Jeff had worked at Kmart in Warsaw and at Shoe Show. He enjoyed working and was always in high spirits at his jobs as he enjoyed interacting with customers and his co-workers.
Those closest to him would describe Jeff as a “bubbly” person as he was easy to connect with and very social. He enjoyed sports and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, avid Green Bay Packers fan and thoroughly enjoyed Notre Dame women’s basketball. He also loved his nieces and supported them in everything they did; of course, he loved supporting them in sporting events. He also enjoyed watching movies, both at home and in the theater. Overall, Jeff simply loved life and spending time with those around him.
Those surviving Jeff with memories to treasure include his parents, Larry and Shirley Gaerte; his sister, Heather (spouse Louis) Desenberg; and two nieces, Page and Lex Desenberg, all of Warsaw.
Friends and family will gather for a time of visitation at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Jan. 17.
The funeral service and interment will be privately attended in Warsaw’s Oakwood Cemetery.
