Jefferson Water Tower Demolished

Posted
The water tower on Jefferson Street in Warsaw was demolished Wednesday.

The 250,000-gallon water tower was installed in 1947, and has served Warsaw and Winona Lake communities for more than 60 years, according to Chris Harrison, Indiana American Water operations manager.

The demolition of the tower is part of the $25 million system-wide improvements throughout the Warsaw district.

These improvement are designed to increase water quality, fire protection and efficiencies throughout the district, Harrison said.

The Jefferson Street tower is no longer needed to maintain reliable fire protection and service to customers.

To keep the tower in service would require significant cost improvement to the site with minimal improvement to customers. The Jefferson Street tower has been out of service since Sept. 22.

Customers in the area are being served by the east tower, which is on the east side of Argonne Road and by the raised west tower located in Boggs Industrial Park.
