NORTH MANCHESTER - Jean P. Ireland, 86, of North Manchester, died at 6:49 p.m. Aug. 21, 2010, in his residence.
He was born June 3, 1924, in Laketon, to Asa and Cassie Miller Ireland. On May 11, 1969, he married Marie R. Metzger, who died May 16, 2005.
He graduated from Laketon High School in 1942. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving on the USS Cabot. He was a retired farmer. He was a former member of American Legion Post 402, Laketon, and a member of American Legion Post 286, North Manchester. He wintered in Mission, Texas, for 22 years, where he was a member of a men's choir that entertained at parks and retirement communities in that area.
Surviving are four sons: Michael (and spouse Nancy) Ireland, Arvada, Colo.; W. Patrick (and spouse Carol) Ireland, Blue Ridge, Va.; Kelly Ireland, Bloomington; and Mitchell Ireland, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Kathleen "Cindy" Seward, North Manchester; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, a brother and two sisters.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Laketon Cemetery.
Calling is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
