MICHIGAN CITY - Jean E. Sanders, 81, of Michiana Shores, died March 18, 2009, in Golden Living Center-Fountainview Terrace, LaPorte.
She was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Garrett, to Ronald Waldo Jack and Leora Trimble Lung. On March 29, 1958, in Garrett, she married Mark G. Sanders, who survives in Michiana Shores.
She was a former art teacher in Saginaw, Mich., and Woodriver/Alton (Ill.) Community High School and an art supervisor in New Castle. She also taught adult education classes for the Dunes Art Foundation.
She lived in Chicago from 1958-61, where her husband worked for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. They transferred to the Warsaw plant in 1961, where she was a member and later president of Tri Kappa, and co-president of the Washington School PTA. She attended St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Warsaw, and belonged to the ECW, organized the lenten suppers and was the cheese ball chairman. She also co-owned Sand Kracker for several years, where works of art were framed, rented or sold.
They decided to move to their home in Michiana Shores in 2003, and transferred their church membership to Trinity.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynn (Elizabeth) Banks, Katy, Texas; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Reesa Banks. She was preceded in death by a son, Clay Meadows Sanders.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Michigan City.
