LA PORTE – Jayne Sandy, 61, of La Porte, passed away at 3 p.m. Oct. 7, 2012, in her residence, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 12, 1951, in La Porte, to Kenneth and Muriel Casey Miller. On Feb. 19, 1971, in La Porte, she married Michael E. Sandy, who survives.
Living her entire life in the La Porte area, she was a registered nurse and worked as a surgical nurse and for the last 15 years as a Hospice nurse. She graduated from La Porte High School in 1969, and Purdue University School of Nursing. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; La Porte County Master Gardener Association; Duneland Weavers Guild of Northwest Indiana; and Four Seasons Garden Club.
Also surviving are a son, Matthew (and spouse Chasity) Sandy, Warsaw; two granddaughters, Nicole and Kylee Schooley, both of Warsaw; five sisters: Peggy (and spouse Paul) Teeters, Elk Grove, Calif.; Joan Campbell, Three Oaks, Mich.; Gayle Miller, Yukon, Okla.; Cynthia Miller, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Elizabeth (and spouse Doug) Latham, La Porte; a brother, Kenneth (and spouse Jean) Miller, Carmel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. (CST) Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church, La Porte, with the Rev. Joseph Angotti officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. (CST) Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (CST) Thursday at Essling Funeral Home, La Porte. A prayer service will be at 7 PM (CST) Wednesday at the funeral home with Deacon Christopher Hawkins officiating.
