Taro Yodogawa, of Japan, visited Warsaw Tuesday during his 4,000-mile bicycle trip from Los Angeles to New York.
Yodogawa, 24, took a break from his journey to eat lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken. He began his trip Sept. 23 in Los Angeles and plans to reach New York by Nov. 24.He said he worked at a business in Japan that puts together catalogs that sell office tools. He saved money from his job for a year so he could travel and visit the United States.
He took an airplane from Japan to Los Angeles, where he stayed for two days and purchased a bicycle before beginning his bicycle journey.
"Bicycling is a hobby of mine, and one of the places I have always dreamed of seeing is the Rocky Mountains," Yodogawa said.
His travels have taken him to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the Grand Canyon, Oklahoma and Chicago.
He said he also visited Washington, D.C., where he stayed for four days and visited the Smithsonian Museum.
He said his plans are to return to Japan after he reaches New York.
Yodogawa said he previously has taken bicycle trips this year to Taiwan, Europe, France and Germany.
Yodogawa graduated with a degree in physics two years ago. His family lives in Japan. He said his parents are supportive of his bicycle trip.
Yodogawa has traveled with bags of clothes, food, water, camping tools and a camera strapped to his bike. He has stayed at campgrounds and motels and used an atlas to guide his travels.
