The Wagon Wheel Theatre has grown accustomed to change over the past 57 years. Wardrobes are changed every scene, shows are changed every 10 days during the summer, and on Jan. 1, The Wagon Wheel “changed” ownership becoming a not-for-profit, community owned and supported theater. Other change involves the expansion of programs with an emphasis on youth education in the Warsaw community. On Feb. 4-5, the Wagon Wheel Theatre presents its very first Wagon Wheel Jr. Production, “Tiny Thumbelina the Musical”. Dean and Carol Lyn Jansen, of Jansen Orthopedic, donated $5,000 to support the show. “We are excited to be able to assist in the growth of new community programs as the Wagon Wheel continues to support and expand these experiences for all community members,” said Carol Lyn. Wagon Wheel Theatre Artistic Director Scott Michaels emphasized the importance of community support. “The need is great. Although we have a great foundation and history, we are essentially in our first year of operation and starting from square one. Our hope is that other businesses will follow Jansen Orthopedic’s lead and help fund these amazing programs,” Michaels said. The Wagon Wheel hosted an audition for the junior production in December and more than 100 kids from the area showed up hoping to land a part in the show. Ultimately, a cast of 25 was selected, which means 75 percent will have to come back to audition for a future show. Michaels plans on producing four junior shows per year. “Tiny Thumbelina” is scheduled for two matinee performances at 2 p.m. Feb. 4-5. All tickets are $12 and benefit the Wagon Wheel Jr. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit the Wagon Wheel Theatre website at wagonwheeltheatre.org For donation information, contact Will Dawson, Wagon Wheel Theatre director of operations, at 574-267-8041.
