James R. Slone, 66, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, and formerly of Warsaw, died March 23, 2007, in his residence.
He was born in David, Ky., to Woodrow Slone and Vina Whitaker-Slone. He married Barbara Branham, who survives after 41 years of marriage.
He was a military policeman in the Army and served in the Vietnam War. He also served three years on the Warsaw Police Department in the 1960s.
Also surviving are a three daughters: Mrs. Jeff (Debbie) Keough, Warsaw; Jackie Slone, Atlanta, Ga.; and Tabitha Meredith, Edwardsburg, Mich.; a son, Jeffery Slone, San Juan, Puerto Rico; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his mother, Vina Cleveland, Warsaw; three sisters: Alvalee "Abby" Engle; Jane Hiney and Mrs. Henry (Brozie) Elliott, all of Warsaw; two brothers, Gene (and wife Denise) Slone, Warsaw; Larry (and wife Teresa) Slone, Pierceton; a half-brother, Carl Slone, Kentucky; two half-sisters, Linda Slone and Brenda Slone, both of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Mrs. Steven (Vonda) Smith.
Calling was March 26 at Rogers and Davis Funeral Home, West Portsmouth, Ohio. Burial with full military service and rites was March 27 at Slone's Family Cemetery.
