MENTONE – James Millard “Deacon” Bryan, 69, Warsaw, died at 7:34 p.m. Oct. 6, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. He was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Warsaw, to Mott O. and Mildred “Millie” E. Johnson Bryan. On June 18, 1983, in Warsaw, he married Connie Guthrie, who survives in Warsaw. He was raised on a poultry farm just north of Mentone. He graduated from Mentone High School in 1964. He also attended Manchester College after high school and later in life. He was an assistant pressman for R.R. Donnelly, Warsaw. He was past president of the Eagles Aerie and he was a member of the Moose Lodge, both of Warsaw, and the Warsaw Gun Club. He enjoyed baseball, NASCAR – especially Mark Martin, gardening, his cats and reading Louis L’Amore novels. Also surviving are a daughter, Jamie (and spouse Dave) Pena, Ligonier; a son, Scott (and spouse Stacey) Bryan, Goshen; two sisters, Jennie L. (and spouse John) Harrold, Muncie, and Sherry (and spouse Steve) Murray, Carmel; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Wilson. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating.
