NAPPANEE - James "Jim" Richard Deardorff, 62, of 27145 CR 150, Nappanee, died at 10:54 a.m. March 2, 2010, in William Middleton VA Hospital, Madison Wis. He was there since Feb. 1, waiting for a lung transplant.
He was born Nov. 20, 1947, in Elkhart, to Richard and Isabelle Miller Deardorff. On May 11, 2007, in Las Vegas, he married Susan Wortinger, who survives.
A lifetime area resident, he graduated from Nappanee High School in 1966, and Indiana Technical College. He delivered vehicles for Mack Transport. He was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren; American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the National American Rollerskating Association.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy (and spouse Bill) Holdeman and Tracey Doerr, all of Nappanee; two stepdaughters, Lisa (and spouse Brian) Hollingsworth, Yorba Lindd, Calif., and Angela Riggs, Nappanee; a stepson, Nathan Wortinger, Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Nappanee Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Byrl Shaver officiating, assisted by the Rev. Janet Shaver. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with a military graveside service.
