BOURBON – James E. Sommer, 84, of Bourbon, died at 3 a.m. Dec. 19, 2011, in his residence, in the care of his family and Hospice.

He was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Fort Wayne, to Lester I. and Barbara Stauffer Sommer. On July 1, 1949, he married Edith R. Winebrenner, who survives.

A resident of the Bourbon and Etna Green area most of his life, he was a 1945 graduate of Leo High School and owned Bourbon Plumbing and Heating for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and attended Philadelphia Church of God, Elkhart.

Also surviving are six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Sommer, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a granddaughter and his brother.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of arrangements.
