BOURBON – James Britton “Britt” Myers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and servant of God, passed peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Mattoon, Ill., Britt’s life was a testament to faith, love and resilience.
Britt was the cherished son of his late parents and was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a daughter-in-law. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his devoted wife, Ernestine, to whom he was happily married for 60 beautiful years. Britt is also survived by a daughter, a son-in-law, three sons, two daughters-in-law and four grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His family also includes four brothers and a sister, who will deeply miss his presence.
A dedicated scholar, Britt graduated from Lakeland College and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University. His commitment to serving his country was evident through his honorable service in the U.S. Army as a military police officer, stationed in Germany from 1963 to 1965.
Although Britt held various jobs throughout his life, ranging from cook to painter, his true calling was in ministry. Over 21 years, he pastored several churches, touching countless lives with his spiritual guidance. Later his career path changed, and Britt found joy in music ministry and visiting shut-ins and the elderly, continuing to lead many to a personal relationship with Jesus.
Britt’s love for nature, much like his father’s, was expressed through his passion for gardening and raising roses. His gentle spirit and compassionate heart were evident in all he did, making him a cherished member of his community.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
