James A. MaurerBOURBON – James A. Maurer, age 88, of Bourbon, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake.
James was born to Gail and Bertha Mason Maurer on June 4, 1934, in Connersville. He was a resident of the area most of his life. He very proudly received his master’s degree from Purdue University. He taught at Bourbon High School from 1957-1962 in industrial arts. He then went on to teach Industrial Arts at Plymouth High School from 1963 until his retirement in 1999. He was known for being full of PHS spirit. He also taught computers and the ICE classes at Plymouth.
He married Maryanne Burkett on June 20, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2006. He then married Janet Davenport on Nov. 2, 2008, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2019. He attended Bourbon United Church of Christ. He loved making his wife happy, spending time with his family, collecting coins, fishing and Plymouth High School sports.
James is survived by his daughters: Karen Maurer, of Warsaw; Julia Hedington, of Bourbon; Lora Beeson, of Warsaw; his grandchildren: Erica (Todd) Pace, of Campbellsville, Ky.; Greg (Kirsta) Hedington, of Columbia City; Derek (Stefanie) Sauer, of Etna Green; Emily (Travis) Ray, of Osceola; her great-grandchildren: Kamberlyn Pace, Tanner Pace, Mykenna Pace, Gavin Bufford, Keala Fontenot, Londyn Hedington, Kaleb Ray, Weston Ray, Alex Sauer and Bentley Sauer.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Maryanne and Janet; and his brothers, Maurice Maurer and Donald Maurer.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 10 at 3 p.m. in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland Center, with Pastor Kristin Harp presiding.
