Jackson Says He’ll Seek Seat Vacated By DeLynn Geiger

Former Northern District County Commissioner Brad Jackson has indicated he will put his name in for the Republican caucus for the atlarge county council seat vacated by DeLynn Geiger this week.
Geiger gave his resignation letter to Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan and County Clerk Melissa Boggs on Thursday after the council’s regular monthly meeting. His resignation was effective Friday, Dec. 12. Geiger indicated in his letter his resignation was so he could spend more time with family.
A caucus is planned for Jan. 6 in the old courtroom of the Kosciusko County Courthouse. Declarations are due to Ragan no later than 72 hours before the caucus starts. Eligible candidates are Republicans in good standing who live in the county.
Geiger won one of the three atlarge county council seats in the November 2024 election. This year was his first year on the council and there are three years left on his term.
In September, Jackson announced he was going to seek the county council District 1 seat, currently held by Councilwoman Kimberly Cates, in the 2026 election. Cates has not publicly indicated whether she plans to seek reelection or not.
Jackson, a Syracuse resident, served 28 years as a commissioner and announced his retirement in February 2024. On Friday in a telephone call, he said he’s been voluntarily “on the bench” for the past year and is ready to serve again as there are a lot of things going on currently.
