Jackie S. Cumberland, 53, Akron, died at 12:40 p.m. Jan. 7, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, after being in failing health for a year.
She was born May 11, 1962, in Warsaw, to Ronald E. and Dixie S. Krebs Secrist. On Nov. 9, 1980, at the Mentone United Methodist Church, she married Greg A. Cumberland, who survives in Akron.
She worked at Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. for 21 years. She enjoyed being a SWOOP reading instructor for the last nine years at Akron Elementary School.
She was a 1980 Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate, where she swam and was a Vikette. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going with her husband to Tin Caps games, baking cakes, shopping, especially on Black Friday, as well as spending time with her family.
Also surviving are her mother, Dixie Secrist, Mentone; a daughter, Heather (and spouse Doug) Corliss, Greenwood; a son, Derek Cumberland, Fortville; two sisters, Robin (and spouse Phil) Arnold, Monroe, and Penny (and spouse Mike) Smith, Estonia; and a brother, Tim Secrist, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald E. Secrist, who died in 2003, and a sister, Toni Secrist, who died in 1968.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mentone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
