Jack Younce

Jack Younce, 75, of Novato, Calif., died May 29, 2008, after a battle with leukemia.

He was born July 17, 1932, in Jenkins, Ky., to Sam Finley and Rausie Harmon Younce. In 1958, he married Shirley Rockhill, who died in 1986.

He lived in Pound, Va., before moving to Indiana. He was 1952 Atwood High School graduate, where he excelled in basketball. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War. He worked at Sun Metal Manufacturing, Warsaw, and later transferred to Bradenton, Fla., to open a new plant. He was a member of Indian Valley Golf Course. He moved to Novato, where he lived for 20 years.

Surviving are two sons, Blake and Casey Younce; five grandchildren; two siblings, Annette Younce Rollins, Knoxville, Tenn., and Sam Younce, Etna Green; and longtime companion, Tommy Hudson, and her three sons. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be at a later date at Atwood United Methodist Church.
