SOUTH BEND - Nearly 70 credit hours taken at Ivy Tech State College North Central will be transferable to equivalent courses at Indiana University South Bend.
Today's announcement is the result of a cooperative effort between the schools to assist Michiana area students in achieving their educational goals. In turn, IUSB credits are accepted at all Indiana University locations and can be applied to a variety of degree programs.
Les Lamon, acting IUSB chancellor, said the spirit of cooperation between Indiana schools has been growing. "This articulation agreement is one of several IUSB has been forging to help area residents achieve their educational goals through a variety of options. We believe such inter-institution cooperation is part of the heart of our mission to serve the taxpayers of Indiana," he said.
Since 1994, IUSB has accepted 24 transferable credit hours from Ivy Tech and will add 45 through the addition of 18 transferable classes.
The move is largely due to Ivy Tech North Central following NCA faculty credentialing guidelines for general education courses. These guidelines indicate that all general education faculty must possess a master's degree in the field or a related master's degree with 18 graduate hours in the field.
Elizabeth Scarborough, acting vice chancellor of academic affairs at IUSB, said the expanded offering will be of great benefit to IUSB students. "It will ease their transition from Ivy Tech to IUSB by identifying clearly the courses that transfer and how those courses may be counted toward requirements at IUSB," she said.
Carl Lutz, vice president, chancellor, says he is "delighted" with the new agreement, which more than doubles the number of transferable credit hours.
The 18 classes include business and computer science courses not included in the previous agreement between the two schools.
