Ivy Tech Announces New Classes

Posted
SOUTH BEND - Ivy Tech will be offering courses in human services available at the Warsaw campus in the spring semester starting in January, according to program chair Joann Phillips.

The courses include two-way video courses for students new to the program. Introduction to Human Services and Helping Relationship Techniques will be offered from 8:15 to 11 a.m. on rotating Monday mornings, Jan. 14-May 10.

The courses will be "hybrid," which means that students spend half the time they normally do in the classroom, with extra work assigned outside of class.

Students now are able to complete a one-year technical certificate or two-year associate degree in human services by taking classes face to face in the classroom and via distance education.

The program offers specialty concentration areas of mental health, substance abuse, gerontology and correctional rehabilitation, according to Phillips. In addition to the introductory courses, the Human Services Program includes courses in interviewing and assessment skills, group techniques, and behavior techniques, in addition to the specialty-related courses and general education core requirements. Two internships are included to provide practical clinical skills.

Registration is now in progress for the spring semester and advising appointments or more information are available by calling Mary Marty at the Warsaw campus, at 574-267-5428, Ext. 6110, or Phillips at 574-289-7001, Ext. 6372. Information also is available by visiting www.ivytech.edu
