Island Weaver Observes Spinning & Weaving Week

Posted
WINONA LAKE – The Island Weaver will join with spinners and handweavers all over the United States this week to observe Spinning and Weaving Week.
The Island Weaver is one of more than 500 retail outlets around the country which specializes in supplies and equipment for a growing number of people who spin and weave, either professionally or in their leisure time, according to owner-manager Lauri Hoover.
The Island Weaver, East Canal Street, The Village at Winona, is in its second year of business. Hoover previously lived in Arizona on a sheep ranch. She learned about weaving from “the hoof up,” as she says. She has been, and currently is, a member of several spinning and weaving guilds throughout the West and now in Indiana.
The Island Weaver carries weaving looms and other weaving accessories, spinning wheels and many different yarns for handweaving, knitting and crocheting. Lessons in weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting and other fine arts are available through the shop.
The shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Island Weaver will have live demonstrations of spinning and weaving celebrating Spinning and Weaving Week Saturday all day. The public is invited.
Displays of handspun and handwoven items made by local craftspeople, whose skills range from beginning to advanced levels will be on view.
Spinning and Weaving Week is an annual event sponsored by the Handweavers Guild of America Inc., a member organization of affiliated guilds and individuals from all states and 28 countries.
