Editor, Times-Union: The first issue of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published after the terrority attack of Jan. 7, 2015, had a cartoon of Muhammad on the cover. Muhammad was shown having a tear in his eye and holding a sign that read “I am Charlie” (Je suis Charlie.) I hope no one believes Muhammad would have grieved the death of anyone who mocked him. In fact, Muhammad ordered the deaths of singers and poets who mocked him in song and verse (see “Muhammad’s Dead Poets Society,” answering islam.org; thereligionofpeace.com/insultingIslam; list of killings ordered or supported by Muhammad, wikiIslamn.net). Moslems and their liberal apologists claim “This is not Islam.” But it is hard to believe their denials when these examples are taken from the Hadith, Islam’s own biography of Muhammad upon a par with the Koran. I guess we’re to pay no attention to terrorists shouting “Allah Akbar” (Allah is Great), “The prophet is avenged,” and verses from the Koran. The liberals show a real double standard. They say people have to quit mocking Islam in the name of tolerance and understating, but liberals mock Christianity and claim they are speaking truth to power (salon.com/Five atheist and Moslem billboards that drove the Christian right nuts, Katie Halper Alternet, July 16, 2014.) I suspect liberals know Christians aren’t likely to kill them over their insults. Remember how radical Christians stormed the offices of National Lampoon and shot up the staff for publishing “Son o’ God” Comics? Of course you don’t, because it never happened. An even more blatant example is Michael Palin. He mocked Christianity in the movie “The Life of Brian.” But he refused to mock Islam because Moslems are heavily armed and do not have a sense of humor (An inquiry into Islam.com “Monty Python’s Michael Palin scared to make fun of Islam.”) Ambrose Kane asks, “But how often do these same liberals publically speak truth to power to Muslims in Britain or in the U.S.? How come liberals never travel to middle eastern Islamic nations and publically campaign for womens’ rights, homosexual rights, or even just for foreign tolerance?” (Leftist coward Michael Palin, “Monty Python” star) “You can’t parody Islam” Ambrose Kane.com Jan. 1, 2014).
