KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Irene H. Benzenberg, 89, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and formerly of Warsaw, and Estero, Fla., died Oct. 19, 2008, at The Springs at Bronson Place, Kalamazoo.
She was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Kalamazoo, to Swier and Marie Abrahams Smith. On June 5, 1939, she married James J. Benzenberg, who preceded her in death.
In 1985, she moved to Florida, where she resided for 22 years, until moving back to Kalamazoo in 2007.
Surviving are three children: Judith (and spouse Leonard) Grabowski, Vicksburg, Mich.; Robert (and spouse Diana) Benzenberg, Holland, Mich.; and Mark Benzenberg, Estero, Fla.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wesley (and spouse Cora) Smith, Gobles, and Clifford (and spouse Phyllis) Smith, Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by a sister.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at The Fountains at Bronson Place, Kalamazoo, with the Rev. Roger Kleinheksel officiating. Private burial will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Kalamazoo.
