AKRON - Irene C. Workman, 88, formerly of Beaver Dam Lake, Claypool, died at 9:20 a.m. March 24, 2008, in Heritage Pointe, Warren, where she resided.

She was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Fairmount, to Verlie and Lora Jones Couch. On Oct. 30, 1948, in Mathews, she married George D. Workman, who died June 7, 2007.

She was a former secretary at Craig Middle School, Indianapolis, and a bookkeeper at RCA. She graduated from Jefferson Township High School, Grand County, and Marion Business College. She attended Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, Akron, and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are a sister, Mildred (and spouse Clarence) Wagoner, Marion; and a brother, Max (and spouse Shelby) Couch, Swayzee. Although never having any children, she was like a mother to her nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Jacqueline Foley officiating. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.

Calling is from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
