FORT WAYNE (AP) — A northern Indiana man who works as a lecturer at Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne has been arrested on charges alleging that he inappropriately touched a boy after threatening him with a knife. Sixty-five-year-old Thomas A. Overton of Roanoke was arrested Monday and charged with child molesting. He was later released on bail. Court records state that just before he allegedly touched the boy, Overton was holding a knife and threatened to harm the boy if he told anyone. The alleged incident occurred when the boy was a third-grader. School spokeswoman Susan Alderman declined to comment on Overton's status at IPFW. The Journal Gazette reports that the school's website states that Overton has worked at IPFW since 2001 and is listed as a lecturer in sociology. There was no telephone listing for Overton.
Mitch Daniels to headline Tenn. GOP fundraiser NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Republican Party says the keynote speaker its annual Statesmen's Dinner is Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a potential presidential candidate. The party's annual fundraiser is scheduled for July 15 in Nashville. Daniels said on Tuesday that it won't be long before he decides whether to run for president, but that he doesn't have a timetable for making an announcement regarding the 2012 race. The former White House budget director is being recruited by Republicans who hope his fiscal conservatism would appeal to voters alarmed by the national debt and big government.
