I believe in free speech (hopefully minus hurting any innocents).
And to the extent of having Libertarian, Dan Stevens, come to the Blue Lion Coffeehouse at 10 a.m. on Oct. 16, to give his views on his political stance and answer questions from those in attendance, the better to broaden our political knowledge.
So the owner of the coffeehouse and I also agreed that to have Tom Metzger, write-in candidate for Congress, to make a like appearance there at 10 a.m. on Oct. 23 would be an informative time. After a news brief announcing this, the owner called me the next morning to tell me that he had already received three phone calls about the event. (Evidently "not good for business" type of calls.) Consequently he felt he could not co-host it.
In turn I called Mr. Metzger whom I thought would accept the cancellation gracefully, and he did (at that time). Then I called the reporter at the Times-Union and the cancellation was inserted.
Now we have the response from Mr. Metzger which seemed to me a whole lot of negativity, particularly for the Blue Lion. I wonder if Mr. M. has owned and operated a business. It can and does influence how one conducts their business.
I am so sorry that there are those who are so narrow-minded that they oppose receiving information about a subject. Even if they themselves do not, others may appreciate being educated politically.
Now read this:
I have a good-sized garage that has heat availability. Mr. Metzger, here is an invitation to you and to those who would like to attend on Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. I'm in the phone book and have an answering machine. So please e-mail a reply: acceptance or regrets, or a phone message. If attending, leave your phone number so I can verify and be ready for your coming.
