Interviews to replace vacancies left by two former Warsaw Fire Department lieutenants begin today.

There have been seven candidates who have applied for the two vacant positions, Warsaw Human Resources Director Jennifer Whitaker said Wednesday.During its Jan. 21 meeting, Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved Mike Brubaker and Aaron Bolinger to be promoted from WFD lieutenants to captains effective Jan. 23, leaving two lieutenant vacancies.

Brubaker and Bolinger replaced Ed Kipker and Kreg Warren, whose voluntary resignations were approved at the board's Jan. 8 meeting.

Whitaker said she expects two new lieutenant recommendations to come before the board of works for approval at its Feb. 19 meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the city council chambers.

The two vacant lieutenant positions were posted at the end of January, Whitaker said.

Whitaker said the city is promoting from within WFD to fill the two vacancies. The seven candidate interviews will end Feb. 10.

Whitaker said she, along with WFD Chief Mike Rice and WFD captains Brubaker, Bolinger and Kerry Stogsdill will conduct the interviews.

The captains will make recommendations to Rice for the two lieutenant replacements.

Rice will then make recommendations to Whitaker that she will present for board of works approval at the Feb. 19 meeting.

Rice and Whitaker said all of the candidates are qualified, and it will be a difficult task to select two candidates to recommend to the board of works.

"It will be a difficult decision to select two lieutenants because they all are qualified, excellent and certified candidates," Rice said.
