Inspirational Speaker Chris Singleton Shares Story With WCSWarsaw Community Schools hosted Chris Singleton during a convocation Jan. 22 for all fifth-grade students at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center.

Singleton shared his story with students, emphasizing the importance of love, forgiveness and overcoming adversity, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools.

Singleton’s role as an inspirational speaker has led him to appear on ESPN's E:60, Sports Illustrated magazine and USA Today.

His mother, Sharonda Coleman Singleton, was murdered along with eight other victims at Mother Emanuel AME church in downtown Charleston, S.C., on June 17, 2015, by a white supremacist.

He inspired his city and the nation by forgiving the man who murdered his mother and stating that "love is stronger than hate." Singleton inspires his audiences through his personal experiences of adversity and his belief that God can guide you through any storm you will ever pass, the release states.

Following the convocation, students lined up to shake his hand, take pictures with him and receive an autograph.

In addition to the presentation to fifth-grade students, Singleton also met with eight WCS baseball players and WCS staff prior to the convocation. The baseball players were able to enjoy a luncheon at the Blue Apron with Singleton to learn more about his experiences on and off the baseball field.

Prior to his visit to WCS, Singleton spoke at the Committee to Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Event held at the Grace College Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on Jan. 21. Over 450 community members attended the event. The Warsaw Community High School choir and Grace College Black Student Association performed for audiences during the event as well.

Singleton also spoke with students at the Grace College Chapel in the morning prior to his visit to WCS on Jan. 22.
