Thank you for your insightful and entertaining editorial, Beware The Pretty Lights In The Sky. I reference your two closing paragraphs advising us to (pardon my paraphrasing): panic, hoard food, panic, run home, panic, pray, then panic some more.

I get it, though. I doubt you are sincerely endorsing that kind of behavior. It was a little funny and very thought-provoking, which is exactly what you intended.

So while we all have level heads, why don't we start thinking about the future and some of those worst-case scenarios and begin to save up a minimum of 60 to 90 days worth of non-perishable food in our basements, garages and cabinets? Remember that while canned goods have extremely long shelf-lives, you should rotate your food supply so that the canned goods you purchase today go in the back and the next can of green beans you take off the shelf for dinner is the "oldest" can on the shelf.

On the water side, a good water filter would be a much better choice than a six-month supply of bottled water.

Again, thanks for your thought-provoking editorial. I just hope that people get it and start thinking about the what-ifs today, and not after they've happened.
