Insanity Defense Expected In Robbery Case

The case against the woman accused of robbing Horizon Pharmacy is proceeding with the likelihood of an insanity defense.

Kosciusko Superior Court I Judge Duane Huffer issued an order recently for Dr. William Yee and Dr. Yehia Khoga of the Bowen Center to examine Cheryl Ann Lang, 39, of Warsaw, and for them to testify at her trial.

This order came in response to Lang's court-appointed attorney, Jamelyn Freeman, earlier filing a notice of intent to assert an insanity defense.

Lang is accused of robbing the downtown Warsaw business, formerly Brennan's Pharmacy, while clad in a plastic garbage bag and nylon booties and wearing a pair of pantyhose over her head.

She fled the store with controlled substances she demanded after allegedly entering the store on Memorial Day. A week later, she again came into the pharmacy wearing the same "disguise" and ordered employees and customers from the front of the store into the pharmacy counter area.

Police apprehended Lang inside the store after an employee sneaked behind the front counter and called 911 to report the robbery in progress.

Lang is charged with strong-armed robbery and robbery. She reportedly intimated that she was armed with a handgun, but allegedly had her finger pointed like a gun underneath the see-through trash bag.
