The Kosciusko County Jail inmate who died Wednesday at Kosciusko Community Hospital suffered a cardiac-related condition, according to Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd. The death was ruled as due to natural causes.
Ladd said the autopsy performed Thursday at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne, revealed Jeffrey Mark Reid, 36, of North Webster, "had a number of heart problems" of which he and his family apparently were unaware.
There were no signs of trauma or injury to Reid's body, and results of toxicology testing will not be known for a couple weeks, Ladd said.
According to Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine, Reid reportedly was suffering symptoms of withdrawal and was in the care of the jail nurse when he stopped breathing at the jail Tuesday night.
He was taken to KCH, where he died Wednesday night.
Reid was being held in the KCJ after being brought in early Saturday on charges of driving while adjudged a habitual offender and refusal to submit to chemical testing.
