Infant Injured In Crash

An infant reportedly is in critical condition today after an early morning car accident involving a semi, according to a press release from the Kosciusko County Fatal/Alcohol Crash Team.

Nadia Whalen,1, of Leesburg, was in a child safety restraint in a Mazda MPV operated by Roxanne T. Whalen, 37, Leesburg, when the vehicle crossed the intersection of Commerce Drive and U.S. 30, Warsaw.

The Kosciusko County Fatal/Alcohol Crash Team responded to the accident at 7:42 a.m.

Whalen's vehicle pulled out behind another vehicle, and Whalen said she thought the light was green due to the first vehicle pulling out. Whalen did not realize the traffic signal was out due to an earlier accident involving a vehicle.

The semi was operated by William Boundry, 48, of Fond Du Lac, Wisc. Boundry was not injured in the collision.

Roxanne Whalen suffered minor injures and was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital.

Nadia Whalen was initially treated at KCH, then transferred to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. When contacted, a spokesperson at Lutheran Hospital could not provide further information.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS assisted on the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
