INDOT Section 5310 Specialized Transporatation

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Office of Transit is now offering applications for Section 5310 Specialized Transportation Capital Assistance. INDOT is responsible for administering Section 5310 grant funds for small urban areas (50,000 to 199,999 population) and rural areas under 50,000 population, as defined by the US Census Bureau.

    ELIGIBILITY: The Section 5310 Program serves areas where accessible public transit for seniors and individuals with disabilities is unavailable, inadequate or inappropriate. The program provides vehicles and related accessibility equipment to private non-profit organizations and eligible public bodies involved in transporting elderly persons and persons with disabilities.

    FUNDING: The federal government will fund eighty percent (80%) of the project costs. The grantee will provide the remaining twenty percent (20%). Indiana distributes about $1.4 million to small urban areas (50,000 to 199,999 population) and $1.6 million to rural areas under 50,000 population. INDOT funds about 40 applicants annually.

    TIME FRAME: Completed applications are due on March 8, 2019. Anticipated vehicle delivery is by December 2020.
