On or about May 14, 2012, REAL Services, Inc. intends to apply to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for a grant from the State Community Development Block Grant Program. This program is funded by Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. These funds are to be used for economic development, public facilities, and housing developments. The purpose of this application shall be for weatherization of 40 houses for moderate- to low-income residents of St. Joseph, Marshall, Elkhart, Kosciusko, and Fulton Counties.
REAL Services, Inc. will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Meeting Room A at the Warsaw Public Library, 310 East Main Street, Warsaw, to provide citizens an opportunity to express their views on community development and housing needs, past community development and housing activities, and the proposed weatherization development. In the previous years, 2010-2011, REAL Services has received Community Development Block Grant funds for the following activities: roof replacement, home wiring updates, and lead-based paint issues.
Records regarding the accounting of these beneficiaries and funds are available from Sophia Miller at REAL Services, (574) 284-7113. Interested citizens are invited to provide comments regarding these issues either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. A plan to minimize displacement and provide assistance to those displaced has been prepared and is available to the public. The application will be available for review and comment on May 15, 2012.
Information regarding the proposed development may be obtained from Rich Gadacz, (574) 284-7111, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
