Recently, the Indiana Guard Reserve conducted its annual training at Camp Atterbury, near Edinburgh.
The IGR conducted a full-scale exercised called "Operation Guard Focus," using all aspects of the Military Emergency Management System training they have received to date. A morning and afternoon exercise were held so all personnel could become familiar with the many aspects of the MEMS system.
The Indiana Guard Reserve is a state defense force stationed within the boundaries of Indiana. Members come from all walks of life. Some are civil servants, some have their own businesses, some are firefighters, medical personnel, law enforcement officials and some are retired from mainstream occupations. Many have prior military service, while others just want to be involved in helping their communities and state. All are volunteers who furnish their own uniforms and transportation to wherever they are needed in Indiana. For more information about the Indiana Guard Reserve, or to request an application to join, contact the Indiana Guard Reserve headquarters at 317-244-7173.
