Indiana American Water announced it is awarding a $3,500 grant to Kosciusko Lakes and Streams as part of the company's 2010 Environmental Grant Program.
Kosciusko Lakes and Streams will use the funds to support the organization's efforts at the 2010 Northern Indiana Lakes Festival in Warsaw.
Established in 2005, the company's Environmental Grant Program offers funds for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and groundwater supplies in the communities it serves.
"Ensuring that our water sources are protected and maintained is as important as ensuring we have enough water to meet our demands," said Indiana American Water President Alan DeBoy.
"Often, contaminates enter water resources such as lakes, rivers and streams through watersheds. It is our shared responsibility to protect our water supplies, and all our natural resources to ensure safe and plentiful water supplies."
The grant will be used to expand and enhance the annual Northern Indiana Lakes Festival held in Warsaw. The festival attracts hundreds of families from the region, engaging them in hands-on activities, educational entertainment and demonstrations provided by more than 30 water-related exhibitors and partner organizations.
The purpose of the festival, which was started in 2009, is to encourage the community to protect one of its most valuable resources by mobilizing citizens to positively impact water quality.
All grant recipients will submit a report at the end of the year to American Water regarding how their grant was used to achieve their specific environmental goals. The Northern Indiana Lakes Festival is June 26. For more information about the festival, visit www.northernindianalakesfestival.org
