SYRACUSE - A program displaying Indian prehistoric and historic artifacts will be Aug. 20 in Syracuse. The program will be at 7 p.m. at Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Drive. It is free and is open to the public.

Jim and Eve Bickel, Huntington, and their daughter, Michelle Edington, will provide the program. The Bickels have studied and collected Indian artifacts for more than 50 years. They have provided programs in Indiana for the past 25 years.

Edington's husband, Dr. Tom Edington, is superintendent of Wawasee School Corp.

"We plan to bring artifacts and information on prehistoric people that inhabited this area during the Paleo and Archaic archaeological time period," Jim said.

Many of the Indian artifacts that will be displayed are from the northern part of Indiana.

"We have artifacts that belonged to the first people that entered our continent some 12,000 years ago, as well as artifacts that belonged to the Great Miami Chief Little Turtle and his granddaughter Kil-so-qua," Jim said.

There will be moccasins and a little shirt made by the Miami princess who lived in Roanoke at the turn of the last century.

For more information, call Eloise Kuhn at 574-457-3599. Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served after the program.
