The flow of immigrants to North America began long before the founding of the United States of America. And after its founding the previous wave of immigrants has always attempted to stop the next wave of immigrants from entering the country. When those attempts failed, they would turn to racists policies to prevent the new wave of immigrants from advancing.
But the greed of the American industrial class, not ones to allow the stain of exploitation to sully their reputations or profits, would disregard those laws and provide low-paying and unsafe jobs to the new chattel. This practice of exploiting immigrants has been used since the early stages of the American industrial revolution and is still in use today. It's ironic that many of the so-called "protect the borders" crowds within the GOP are the same ones who benefit from this continued exploitation of the hard working "huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
Many agree that the borders need to be secured. And there is no one solution to this problem. But to think that this is a problem that arose during the Obama administration, like leaders of the GOP want you to, is to disregard the facts and perpetuate the lies.
Sarah Palin, habitual distorter of the truth and who is quickly becoming the face of the GOP, recently told a crowd of her fans, "Mr. President, do your job, secure our border." That statement amounts to more red meat tossed at the GOP base. It's also funny coming from someone who quit her job and abandoned her constituency when the going got tough and the highly lucrative offers started rolling in. More importantly, she offered no new idea to tackle the issue.
Sarah Palin's rise to the top of the GOP is symbolic of a party that is bereft of any new ideas to solve any of our problems and lacks the honor to speak the truth. She's become nothing more than a fundraiser parroting the same speech she gave at the convention and with her as their main asset; the GOP hopes to regain the houses of congress so that they could pass more undemocratic legislation like the Patriot Act and Arizona's racial profiling law. Tyranny sponsored by the GOP.
From 2001 through 2008, the GOP controlled the White House and for six of those years both houses of Congress. Yet not a single significant comprehensive immigration law was passed. The GOP talked about the issue. But that's all they did. And guess whose fault that is?
Well, if you believe the venom spewing from Sarah Palin's mouth then again its President Obama's fault. Again the facts tell a different story. But Sarah Palin is not going to let that get in the way of those speaking fees. It seems the more money she receives, the less truth she speaks and the higher she climbs in the party of say anything and do nothing.
