IHSAA Committee Makes Decision On Football Postseason

Staff Report-
Having already decided to add a sixth class to its postseason football season, the IHSAA approved the postseason schedule for Class 5A and 6A teams Tuesday. The tournament format for Class 1A to 4A remains the same, but the Class 5A and 6A schedule will feature eight, four-team sectionals, with a bye week coming the week before the state championship game. That bye week for the Class 5A and 6A tournament will coincide with the semistate week for the other classes. This decision was unanimously passed by the 16-team IHSAA Executive Committee, which was favored over four, eight-team sectionals, with a bye week taking place the first week of the postseason. The sixth class in football will feature the 32 largest schools in the state, with the next 32 largest comprising Class 5A. To determine which class a school is in, certified enrollment figures will be used for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years, which will be released this winter.
