Indiana Department of Education Friday released the preliminary school and corporation IREAD-3 passage rates for spring 2015. The preliminary statewide passage rate was 84.22 percent. The official passage rate will be finalized after the summer re-test period. All area school corporations surpassed the statewide rate, but not all individual elementary schools did. The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three, according to the IDOE website. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1367 (also known as Public Law 109 in 2010), which “requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four.” Wawasee had 219 out of 258 students in the corporation pass, for a preliminary passage rate of 84.9 percent. At individual elementaries, North Webster had 81 of 95 (85.3 percent) students pass; Milford, 53 of 69 (76.8 percent) passed; and Syracuse Elementary had 85 of 94 students pass (90.4 percent). At Warsaw Community Schools, 518 third-graders out of 583 passed, for a rate of 88.9 percent. Jefferson Elementary had the lowest percentage passing at 79.2 percent (61 of 77 students), followed by Leesburg at 81.7 percent (58 of 71 students); Harrison, 84.9 percent (73 of 86 students); Washington STEM Academy, 91 percent (71 of 78 students); Madison, 93 percent (66 of 71 students); Lincoln, 93.5 percent (72 of 77 students); Claypool, 94.8 percent (55 of 58 students); and Eisenhower at 95.4 percent with 62 of 65 students passing. There were 106 out of 124 students at Tippecanoe Valley elementaries pass the IREAD-3, for a 85.5 percent. Akron Elementary had 45 of 53 students pass (84.9 percent), while Mentone Elementary had 61 of 71 pass for a rate of 85.9 percent. Whitko had 90.1 percent pass, or 91 out of 101. At the two elementaries, Pierceton had 45 of 49 students (91.8 percent) pass, while South Whitley had 46 of 52 students (88.5 percent) pass. Triton School Corp. only has one elementary, and 66 out of 67 students passed, or 98.5 percent. Manchester Community Schools also only has one elementary, and 111 out of its 120 students passed, or 92.5 percent. Sacred Heart School is part of the Diocese of Fort Wayne, which had 1,024 out of 1,098 students pass IREAD-3 for a preliminary rate of 93.3 percent. Sacred Heart had 100 percent of its 27 third-graders passing the test. Warsaw Christian School had 22 of its 27 students pass the spring IREAD-3 test, which is 81.5 percent.
