STATE OF INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 11-09-H-AR DATE COMMENTS DUE: October 20, 2011 Receipt of Application for a Land Application Permit An application to modify the current land application permit was received by the Solid Waste Permits Section of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on September 1, 2011 from MAPLE LEAF FARMS, INC., P.O. Box 308, Milford, Indiana, Permit No. IN LA 000105. The applicant is requesting to modify their current permit to allow the land application of an industrial waste product at agronomic rates to farmland located in KOSCIUSKO COUNTY. The industrial waste product to be land applied is part of a lagoon cleanout project to remove solids that have accumulated over time. A copy of the application is on file at the Warsaw Community Public Library for review. This application was submitted in accordance with Indiana Administrative Code 327 IAC 6.1. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) recognize and encourages the beneficial use of waste products through such practices as land application. Upon issuance of a land application permit, permittees are allowed to land apply the waste products on qualifying farmland in the designated county, with permission of the landowner. A land application permit controls the quality of the waste products to be applied as well as the yearly and cumulative amount of waste products which can be land applied to a site. Procedures for the Formulation of Final Determination Comment Period The permit application is currently undergoing technical review by the IDEM Solid Waste Permits Section Staff. Interested persons are invited to submit written comments on this application. Comments must be received within 30 days of publication of this notice.
