Ice Cream Shop Offers A Different Kind Of Ice CreamKosciusko Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting Thursday for La Michuacana, 1301 N. Detroit St., Warsaw.
Co-owner Fernando Montellano said he and wife, Jaqueline Juarez, opened the store in 2020. They both worked elsewhere, but they decided to try to work for themselves and “who doesn’t like ice cream?” They had the opportunity to take over the Detroit Street location and they did.
Montellano said La Michuacana has Mexican snack like fruit cocktails, pork grinds, natural potato chips, as well as milk shakes, popsicles and ice cream. There are 30 or 40 different types of popsicles.
He said the name La Michuacana is based off an ice cream store in Mexico that the couple franchises.
There is a cart people can rent for weddings or other events. It is filled with La Michuacana’s traditional popsicles, which are homemade. To rent the cart, call 574-306-2185.
Montellano said he hopes people come in and enjoy a little piece of Mexico. The ice cream is different from anything in the area, he said. La Michuacana is a mix of milk and water and is not as creamy as American ice cream.
Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 8:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8:30 p.m.
